Software Engineer

Software Engineer — Storage Anza is the core engineering team behind Solana, developing Agave — the network’s primary and most widely run validator client. The team builds and ships Solana protocol software, including major upgrades like Alpenglow that improved consensus and finality. Responsibilities: - Design, implement, and optimize AccountsDB storage paths: account file layout, account index, and caching layers. - Reduce memory and disk footprint to keep validator hardware requirements manageable. - Improve background services: flushing, cleaning, shrinking, and purging to lower write amplification. - Optimize snapshot generation, loading, and index creation to speed validator startup and catch-up. - Ensure correctness across forks, rooting, and crash recovery to preserve network integrity. - Build and run comprehensive tests: stress tests, fault injection, and performance benchmarks. - Collaborate with runtime, block production, and core protocol teams; maintain documentation and perform code reviews. Requirements: - 3+ years architecting data stores, file systems, databases, or high-throughput storage systems; BS in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience. - Mastery of Rust, C, or C++ and strong understanding of storage architecture (on-disk formats, indexes, caching). - Advanced knowledge of I/O subsystems, NVMe constraints, buffered vs direct I/O, and async interfaces like io_uring. - Deep familiarity with kernel and memory management, custom allocators, and Linux scheduling/page management. - Proven experience building concurrent systems with knowledge of locks, lock-free structures, and hardware memory models. - Strong profiling and optimization experience focused on hardware mechanics, memory bus and CPU cache efficiency. - Excellent debugging and cross-functional communication skills. Nice to have: - Experience with LSM trees, B-trees, or storage engines such as RocksDB, LevelDB, or WiredTiger. - Background in versioned/multi-version datastores, snapshotting systems, or blockchain state storage. - Familiarity with Linux tooling, systems automation, and systems architecture. - Active participation in Bitcoin/Ethereum/blockchain projects or open-source communities.
